Forbes.com: Will Protests Against "Me Before You's" Disability Representation Affect Opening Weekend Profits?

While the numbers are already in and counting for this weekend’s box office, next weekend’s tally for the controversial and contested Me Before You may be affected by ongoing protests.

Objections to the adaptation of Jojo Moyes best-selling book (Moyes also wrote the screenplay) began at the London premiere last week when the organization Not Yet Dead UK—a group of disability activists against assisted suicide—called for a boycott of the film on May 25th. From there the hashtag #MeBeforeAbleism was born and the film’s hashtag of #LiveBoldly was flooded by those in the disabled community conveying their truth and their frustration over Moyes’ main character’s inability to see life beyond being a wheelchair user.
